Reading Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design by Stephen C. Meyer you would get a completely different view. Meyer’s book is well researched and his credentials are not shabby. Combine Meyer’s book w/ The Devil’s Delusion: Atheism and its Scientific Pretensions by the erudite and amusing David Berlinski, and it is easy to see that Intelligent Design is being painted as a religious concept and therefore not worthy. However, Berlinski’s secular background make it difficult to attack him as a bible thumper with an agenda.
Intelligent Design doesn’t deny evolution by means of natural selection within a species. But there is a lack of evidence for evolution across species.
Scientific theories (and that is what evolution is) die hard in the hands of the current established scientific community. Thomas Kuhn’s book, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, describes exactly the current situation. The old guard attempting to shut down, and prevent any challenging theories from being published or taught.
